FireWeb Refresh Project – v0.1 – June 2018

What

The FireWeb Refresh project is a first-cut at building out a replacement for FireWeb. If you have access to FireWeb, you can click here for full project details. You can log on to the FireWeb Refresh Test site via > http://portaluat.ffm.vic.gov.au/  Please note Google Chrome is the preferred browser, you may have not be able to load the site on Internet Explorer

It will remain a “test” site until functionality is sufficiently reliable to be released into Production. Please play with it and provide use with feedback back clicking on the      on the top right hand corner of the page.

Why

FireWeb is now 18 years old  , applying new technologies should make for:

  • a better user experience
  • quicker development of new features
  • simpler (faster) maintenance.

Another key need is to make it work well across mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.

How

We aim to build basic functionality for you to test, provide feedback on, and quickly hone, in 3-week cycles called sprints.

We have to both maintain current FireWeb – and build-out the new FireWeb Refresh.

Who

Phil Pringuer is the Project Owner: collating the great ideas / efficiency gains - and prioritising those that return the best ‘bang-for-buck’ for development.

The actual work is being done by the same Developers that build and maintain other TSU applications (current FireWeb; Altona Warehouse Management System; External Plant Web Portal; State Resource Request System; EM-Drive; etc.)

Faster!
Faster!

Keeping current systems running, cuts into time for future development. Other BAU priorities competing for development time include:

  • further the Alice Gower led Foresight project (weather visualisation)
  • make FireWeb | Burns & Works usable by CFA for 18/19 FOPS cycle
  • cope with DELWP HR data feed (flows to FireWeb, IRIS, etc.)
  • upcoming Project FireFighter employment data feed changes

When

We aim to release a Newsletter at every release of a new minor version (e.g. going from 0.1 to 0.2). We'll spare you info on bug fixes and minor tinkering.

V0.1 Release

So - background info covered - read below for what's featured in the first UAT release - and what we're working on next.

Home | Dashboard

This is the initial landing page for the FFMVic Portal (also known as the FireWeb Refresh).

This page doesn't contain any live data - its there to give you an idea of the look and feel we are aiming for.

FFM Regions

One page per Fire region and Fire District - which the business can directly edit and maintain.

These pages all contain editable data including:

  • a links panel
  • an editable text box
  • a weather widget

The data in these pages is all live and editable by anyone at this stage - so everyone can have a play and see the functionality that we hope to provide.

The green 'tiles' at the top - for Going Fires and Fuel Reductions - source their data from the http://firewebuat.ffm.vic.gov.au/ site.

We intend (soon) to re-point them, to source their data from live FireWeb - which will let you test them.

When on a Regional page, they'll tally regional data - drill down to a District page, and they'll reflect District data.

Events

Rough prototype for new look / feel for recording all emergency event types. Over time we will be improving these features and coverage for event types.

Intent is to ensure all event types DELWP is legislatively responsible for managing - are recorded in a similar way, and store in the one database!

This link will take you to the Events Prototype ~ we're starting with Cetacean Strandings.

Users are invited to have a look at how different elements interact with each other, such as the ability to click an event shown in the Event List - and see that icon highlighted on the Event Map.

  • Note 1: You can - in this 1st release - play with adding an Event, but NOT save that work to see the end result. That functionality is being worked on Version 0.2 release.
  • Note 2: To return to FireWeb Refresh from the Events module, click your browser's back BACK button. We are working on opening Events in a separate window for Version 0.2 - so you don't "leave" the app.

Safety & Wellbeing

Rough idea of a business-related module – look / feel across the site.

This area is another showcase of some of the styling we will be applying to pages that can be owned / edited directly by the business.

The layout and method of displaying data is intended to be an improvement on the current Fireweb site for readability and information management.

Note:    Ability to edit is not yet tied to any log-in role.

Library

Replacement for FireWeb’s Documents database – with the difference that users can:

  • create folders
  • upload documents
  • create links to those docs from their Region & District pages e.g. upload the R&R Plan – then provide a link to it.

The documents library included in this initial FFMVic Portal is a specific user controllable area - currently all users can have a go (though we have limited storage space).

Features include:

  • a new look navigation structure
  • advanced search functionality that can search on content, and return relevant snippets (Google-search like)
  • ability to create folders and upload files.
